My practice was varied, so I did not work on a lot of tombstone-worthy deals. But I do have a small collection of them:
After helping a client complete a big corporate transaction, you will occasionally receive a small lucite statue, plaque or orb as a token of thanks for your months of hard work, sacrifice and often some type of stress-induced illness. These “deal toys” typically display party names and logos as well as the dollar amount of the transaction. Seasoned corporate attorneys will have office shelves filled with deal toys—physical embodiments of their power and expertise—and you are well advised to begin to amass your own collection as soon as possible. On an unrelated note, another name for “deal toy” is “financial tombstone”, which is frankly more accurate.
