A blog post on the Volokh Conspiracy discusses the implications of the “no” vote in Scotland. Heretofore, the governing structure of the UK has been more centralized than we are used to in the US. To encourage “no” votes, British leaders promised decentralization. But if more powers are given to local government in Scotland, it may be difficult to keep power away from local governments in Wales, Northern Ireland, and even in parts of England distant from London. The post suggests resentment of London similar to American resentment of Washington. If the British politicians follow through on the promises, the UK may become different from what we and they have known. Read the Volokh post.
